Last April 22, 2017 Teresita's of San Fernando held their first ever Grand Halo-Halo Day at SM North The Annex. Where in they give free halo-halo to everyone from 1PM to 3PM. I was really a lucky fella to be invited in such amazing event.
About Teresita's
Teresita's of San Fernando originated from Guagua, Pampanga. They have their own version of their halo-halo, made by Teresita R. Razon but they made it better by adding a secret ingredient which is not allowed to disclose to the media. Their recipe was over 15 years old.
Teresita's also caters original Kapampangan Comfort Home Foods.
The Event
I came in late because I was really sick but I didn't regret comming to this event because it's really fun! We were welcomed and entertained by the organizers (thank you so much!)
I was with my cousin and they were able to serve us two (2) Filipino dishes, Beef Kare-Kare and Beef Caldereta.
Beef Kare-Kare is a type of Philippine Stew with a thick savory peanut sauce with stewed ox tail, pork hocles, calves feet, pig's feet, beef stew meat. It is also sometimes madde with seafoods. It also has vegetables which include egglan, chinese cabbage or other greens.
This dish is also complimented with bagoong (shrimp paste) with chili, sometimes.
I really love it because it's not really the typical kare-kare that I tasted in different restaurants. It is sweet but not to the point that it's loathsome it really goes well with the dish. You can eat it even if you don't match it with a shrimp paste.
I really like how vibrant the sauce is and the beef was really tender and really juicy. The vegetables are not over done as well.
All in all, I really loved this because it's unique. The sweetness of the kare-kare goes well with the whole dish itself, also, the peanut sauce is not overpowering the whole dish,
Beef Kare-Kare is 140 per serving
Another dish they served was Beef Caldereta.
Beef Caldereta is a stewed beef with vegetables and liver paste. Some of the vegetables may include tometoes, potatoes, bell peppers and hot peppers. It also sometimes have tomato sauce.
Thoughts about the dish
I'm expecting that this will be a hint of chili but I didn't felt any spiciness from the dish. I really love the tenderness of the meat, you can actually taste the sauce in the meat. It's really packed with flavors. The vegetables was cooked just right.
Beef Caldereta is 140
And the star of the day, Halo-Halo. Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert with a mixture of shaved ice and evaporated milk and added with various ingredients like, sweet beans, agar jelly, coconut and a other fruits. It is usually topped with leche flan (creme caramel) and ube (purple yam)
Thoughts about the halo-halo
I really love the creamines of the halo-halo, it's really simple, it doesn't have any extravagant ingredient. I guess it was just sweetened banana and coconut. It's not that sweet and it's really enjoyable to eat. My favorite was their leche flan, it's really creamy but I love my mom's even more (ofcourse)
The halo-halo has two versions: The original which is for 90 php and the special for 99 php
Thoughts about the event:
I was really emphasizing on my video blog how organize this event is. I really love how the organizers controlled the crowd. So people are asked to line a straight line while waiting for their turn. They were grouped by tens (10s) as they entered the restaurant, they will give the coupons that was given to them upon entering and they will sign a form before they receive their free halo-halo.
The line from the door of Teresita's is really long, I'm sure that people are really excited in receiving their free halo-halo. They were so patient in waiting for their turn.
The cooperation of the guests with the organizers is what makes this event really smooth and successfull. I bet, everyone enjoyed their free halo-halo.
I was able to meet very nice people, writers and video bloggers on the event. Meeting different types of people with different personalities is what I really enjoy during this kind of events. I really love to socialize with people. I met a writer from a business website and a video blogger on youtube, Trish Terrado.
