Christmas is one of the biggest holidays in the Philippines. As they always say “Lahat ng tao may pera ngayong pasko” even though the life can be quite challenging for the entire year, it is fair enough to say that Filipinos are able to pull it off and survive in the most glorious day!

Most of the time, Filipinos would love to spend time with their loved ones but some would opt to be with their family and go to various places such as Kawit in Cavite which is one of the most sought-after historical sites in the country today and it is one that you should visit this Christmas Season.

Kawit, Cavite is home to some of the most historic sites in the Philippines. This is where the Aguinaldo Shrine is situated wherein the Philippine flag that we know of today was first waved publicly announcing our Independence by none other than the first Filipino President Emilio Aguinaldo. There’s also a lot to learn about our first president and how he has lived his life and times during the revolution era. Beyond the Shrine also are other sights to see including the “Museo ni Baldomero Aguinaldo” hailed towards the cousin of Emilio Aguinaldo and grandfather of Cesar Virata who as a prime minister in the 1980s.


Kawit also boasts rich crafts and delicacies including the Pandayan or the local blacksmithing shop. Blacksmithing is an endangered craft that needs to be promoted and preserved. The local Pandayan is still active and you can still buy handcrafted knives and bolos made the same way during the Revolutionary era. The Christmas specialty – Puto Bumbong or rice cake with shaved coconut and muscovado sugar is a staple food trip stop that shouldn’t be missed when visiting Kawit.


Kawit celebrates the Christmas season through a spectacular display of lights at the Aguinaldo Shrine and Freedom Park. The Christmas lighting event was held last December 14, 2019 and a number of distinguished guests and celebrities joined in celebration of the event. A fireworks display and lighting of the Christmas lights at the Freedom park was also held.

I am honestly trying my very best to prepare different dishes that would make him eat healthier meals for his body to be nourished and boost is the immune system because if we don't it might lead into many challenging issues like obesity, social difficulties, attention problems and leading deficiencies.

Here are some tips that we, parents can do to make our children's lives fantastic and future-ready:

1. Be a role model to them
   Some elders say "Kung anong ginagawa ng matanda ay siyang susundan ng bata" if we wanted to make them be future-ready, we need to ensure our kids can be able to socialize, most especially during playtime. Honestly, this is one of the things I am having a hard time to teach to my son since we rarely go out, and he's an only child, I'm afraid that he might not know how to socialize.
   
   So let's be present what I normally do is I tend to let Edmund play in a playhouse once a while to improve his social skills but I make sure that I'm present and keeping an eye on him not only for his safety so I can teach him what's right from wrong.
   
   In making my kid eat healthy foods, I learned how to eat vegetable frequently, we make sure that there's a vegetable in the menu at least 2 a week. I let him see me eating these foods so he can also eat the same food because he's now in the stage wherein he tends to copy everything I do and that goes with brushing his teeth.
2. Encourage them
   Whenever they reach a certain milestone, you can say that they did a good job or give them little rewards like stickers or candies if they achieved something citing, for example, they did pick up their toys after playing or they finished their meal or they became quiet in the mass.
   
   If they are struggling to follow your instructions, instead of getting frustrated. Encourage them and explain to them why are you doing this, why they need to follow eventually, they will understand.
3. Be there for them
   Whatever may happen we parents are supposed to be with our kids to guide them and let us be their first best friend. I remember when I was a teenager, I am afraid to open up to my parents because I feel like there's a wall between my parents and me but that's not the case and I don't want my own child to feel like he can't open up to me. So I tend to be his barkada before anyone else. 

I may be working at home but mind you, it is just as stressful as working in the corporate world. I may not be traveling to work but I am taking care of my 2-year-old while doing my tasks and soon, will be studying not to mention that we don't have a helper for 2 months now which makes me the ultimate house helper as well. It's chaotic but I love the challenge.

Having no helper for the past two months have been very crazy, juggling between work, chores and taking care of my two-year-old, I remember that I was about to go insane. One the most time-consuming chores is washing the dishes so one thing I do is collect all the dishes and wash it all at the same time to save time, energy and effort. 

I remember when I had my first period, I was so excited because finally I'm transitioning into womanhood little did I know I will experience so many things on this journey.

My mom who had been my best friend ever since taught me the basic things that I needed to know at that time as to how to properly take care of myself down to other things that I might be needing.


When I was in high school, I remember when there was seminar exclusive for girls, in the seminar we were taught the importance of using a good sanitary pad that would lessen the burden that girls feel whenever they have their period. Also, to avoid leakage which is one of the issues back then because as we all know boys are disgusted with periods. That's the time that I learned about Whisper.


 Since then it has been my monthly partner.
