In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I was suffering from severe depression and anxiety. It is an everyday struggle. There were days that I feel so motivated and there were days that I feel that I am a mess. But one thing I have learned is that it shouldn't always be like that, stress and depression shouldn't overpower me.
So here are the things that I do whenever my stress and depression is overpowering me:
- De-stress
It's really hard to de-stress when depression is really kicking and testing you. So the solution? Fighting the depression ourselves because even if our friends wanted to help us but if you don't want to help yourself, you will just drown in depression and won't overcome the problem.
So what do I do to de-stress?
Workout. I workout for over 15 to 30 minutes every day. Working out is also one of the advice of my psychiatrist so I can loosen up the tension in my mind and body. Plus, there are a lot of good benefits of working out. As soon as I finish working out every morning or afternoon, my mood suddenly changes, my adrenaline is flowing through my body and makes me more inspired to finish the things I needed to do.
- Talk to people, have a strong support system
This really helps me a lot. Let's be honest, our family is one good example of a strong support system but it's really nice to talk to someone who understands your dilemma and thinks the way you do.
Whenever I need someone to talk to, I rant on Omegle, yes I know that sounds weird because it's a site full of people who wanted to make out and have sex but trust me, not all people are like that. Some people go to Omegle because they want someone to talk to- like me. Furthermore, it's really nice to rant and to tell your problems to strangers because (1) they don't know you personally (2) you're anonymous on that site.
Also, one thing that helped me a lot is joining a lot of support groups on facebook. A simple word of encouragement means a lot to a depressed person and simply venting out your problem and people will give advice and/or say that they feel the same way about you, it's really the most amazing feeling ever.
- Keep yourself busy
Making yourself preoccupied really helps you be more focus on the things that needed to be done than thinking about your problems.
So what do I do?
I write I write almost everything that I feel. It doesn't matter if it's good grammar, I just write whatever. It helps me loosen up my stress as well.
My psychiatrist also told me to do the things you don't usually do. For example, I can start playing sports- just to keep yourself busy and working.
- Have a good lifestyle
Having a good lifestyle means to say that you need to cut of your vices. I've been there. When I was depressed, I can finish almost 5 packs of cigarette but then I came to the point wherein I just got fed up of being sad and I feel like smoking is just a waste of money and stuff like that- it became my turning point to stop vices and start working out.
I also tried apple cider vinegar diet. I also eat healthy foods and I am more focused on myself and how I can make myself beautiful inside and out by being healthy.
- Stay Positive
One thing that I learned throughout my journey is that, things won't be easy. There will be days that everything will fluctuate and these 'negative' vibes will try to eat you but remaining positive about life and holding on to people who loves and cares about you. You'll get by.
Good luck!
