4 Fun Easter Activities During the Enhanced Community Quarantine
By Mhownai - April 11, 2020
Hi, mommies! It's me, Mhownai!
Do you celebrate Easter? For our family, we normally celebrate Easter in church and then have easter egg hunting, the kids will receive goodies from the elders but because of the Community Quarantine, the church won't be holding any religious service for us to be safe during this virus.
But still, we celebrate Lenten Season in the comfort of our homes.
4 Fun Easter Activities We Can Do During The Lockdown
1. Attend Religious Service Online
Our religious sector is generous to hold their celebrations online in that way we can still join the services even if we are at home. However, we should now that our mind, body, and spirit should be with the celebration. That means, we cannot eat, drink or use mobile phones while at the celebration.
2. Video Conference with Friends & Family
Easter means celebration because our creator has risen from the dead. Some families would opt to hold Easter Celebrations that includes fun games and delicious meals. Although we are supposed to stay at home, we can still have fun with our families through a video conference using zoom, google hangouts or even Facebook Messenger.
3. Decorate Easter Eggs
The celebration Easter is most likely enjoyed by the kids since most elders prepare something fun for them like Easter Egg Hunt. However, that's not the case during the quarantine but we won't let the situation spoil the fun for the kids right?
Time to gather empty eggs and let them decorate it.
This will also enhance their creativity as they can experience mixing colors together. It's also memorable to join them too- great bonding as a family.
4. Color The Easter Egg
No empty eggs? No paints?
That's okay, you can print some cute egg that they can color. You can also keep it as memorabilia or give them a reward after, maybe a treat or a delicious chocolate if you have some.
Let's enjoy Easter even we are locked up in our homes. Happy Easter, everyone!

Hi Mommies, it's me, Mhownai!
Since the Enhanced Community Quarantine was extended until April 30, 2020, we are into the extreme pressure now in terms of money more than ever. As we all know, most of our employees have received their monthly salary left and 13-month pro-rated bonus. So the question is, where will you get the funds for the succeeding weeks.
As homemakers, we need to take action on this- maximize the budget and make the most out of it.
Find out how much do you have right now for the family's budget
Now's the time to be realistic, you should see for yourself how much money you have right now. Get the exact numbers and know how much you are working with. This is much better if you are working this together with your family; everyone should have a clear vision of how much money is left so that they can also adjust to the family's situation.
Create a weekly meal plan
This is the fun part. Creating a meal plan, although these are already practiced by most of the families, however, not everyone is doing this practice. Before you create a weekly plan, I strongly recommend checking all the contents in the pantry and regroup them to see what works and doesn't work. This is also a great opportunity for the family to bond as well, making crazy ideas for the family's meal.
Wants vs Needs
This plays a vital role in budgeting but now, we need to implement it strictly.
I'm sure that most of our budget is running out not because we have the budget doesn't mean we should buy our wants no matter how much would that be. Apart from the amount you should also take into consideration if it's healthy or not.
Cut down the sweets, junk foods, and soft drinks and switch to a healthier diet like fruits and vegetables, not only it's more affordable but it's a great way to boost the immune system.
Go DIY
Based on my own personal disinfecting products are already running out in our local grocery stores and as we all know, health is wealth. The primary goal to avoid our family to be infected with COVID-19 is by keeping our surroundings clean which is why it's necessary to disinfect our house from top to bottom.
However, the challenge is, the disinfecting products are already running out. Last time I went grocery shopping, I cannot find a single disinfecting products all of them are sold out!
Creating Do It Yourself products that would help you cut costs. There are a lot of instructions on how to create which are also affordable and ingredients.
Hi mommies,
How are you?
I know that you are in a financial struggle. Yes, I am too experiencing that right now. My clients paused services because they cannot pay us yet due to ECQ and my other businesses are closed due to the same situation.
So I am too in the same situation as you are. It's terrible, right?
You and/or husband must have lost job for the moment and the 13-month pay and other salaries were already consumed, imagine, this EHQ is so long and without rendering income, it's true that it's difficult to survive.
I feel you.
This situation made me realize how I value money and you too should do the same. Why? Because if we know the value of the money, we will treasure it and this will make use of it wisely. I created this blog post in hopes to influence you how to handle your finances wisely not just for this situation but hopefully, you can carry it for your families to thrive.
1. Budgeting is the Key to Success
We mommies have this amazing skill. We know how to stretch out our budget to its maximum potential. Now, this skill is more important than ever. If we don't know how to budget the money, it's either we tend to overspend or understand and we don't know how to allocate the funds and focus on what's important and what is not.
So what are the things that you need to take in consideration at the moment, think of the important needs:
- Food, Water and Medicine budget
- Give you and your family a month-long budget for this because we never know if the government will prolong the EHQ so think for the long-term
- Bills
- We are fortunate that the service provider companies extended the payments of the bills because of this situation but we are still not sure what will happen after April 13. Better to be prepared
- Health-Related Finance
- Now's the time to focus on our health, we are uncertain as to what will happen next which is why it's better to think in advance and make yourself and your family ready for the worse.
Having a strategic plan in terms of managing the finance plays a vital role in this situation. You can think of alternatives as to how you can either stretch the remaining funds you have or find ways to gather income- either or works ideally during this season.
2. Control the NEEDS and WANTS
As much as we want to provide everything for our families, give ourselves the satisfaction of our cravings with Samgyup or our kid's sugar rush with Chocolate and sweet treats- this doesn't work in this situation now! We need to control ourselves and focus on the NEEDS rather than giving what we want. However, it's still OK to give our family's wants but it's a case to case basis. We don't want to spoil them and we need to teach our family most especially our kids how to control themselves most especially in tough times.
I also believe that it is vital to have open communication to the members of the family regardless of their age, As a single mom, I am very firm when it comes to communicating with my 3-year-old and even though some people might think that kids may not understand it well, I am positive that kids can comprehend what we, adults are trying to say in the best way that they can.
3. Health vs. Wealth
We, Filipinos are all about survival and if you are in a middle or low-class family, having health insurance is not on the top of our list. I too must admit that I neglected this opportunity because I am thinking that this will add to my budget.
As COVID-19 struck the Philippines and I have seen our countrymen struggle for their lives. I have also seen how the government's health care is not as strong and prepared for situations like this- leaving our fellow Filipinos in great debt due to hospital expenses.
Once this pandemic virus is already eliminated, I will definitely get a health card for my son, it's very ideal to prepare for our health and small simple symptoms like cough or flu can be something even worse, so before the health worsen, have yourself checked and having health card can be ideal to this unprepared situation.
Aside from having a health card, it's also ideal to set up your Emergency Fund, this plays a vital role in unexpected situations like COVID-19. However, I do understand that setting up this fund may not be applicable for everyone so it's something to look forward to once the situation gets better.
4. Invest in Learning
As of writing, we are still under the Enhanced Community Quarantine and instead of being bored to death, why don't we enjoy the luxury of time and learn various things. Those who are working from home may not be able to do the live seminars but there's always a replay or you can play the video back while working- that's what I normally do.
Many companies, CEOs are offering FREE Webinars which is very ideal as most seminars cost thousands of pesos so having basic knowledge to various things such as financial management, crisis management, entrepreneurship, mental health, and others can be an ideal way to equip ourselves and later on use it to our lives, our businesses to let our company and families thrive.
In my next upcoming blogs, I will tackle more about COVID-19 learnings that can help your family survive and tune up your gears and be prepared for the better.
Good luck, be safe and be healthy!
Hi Millennial Mommies,
How are you?
We are down on the 3rd week of our Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and at this point, many people regardless of their status are focusing on one thing- survival! Living here in Quezon City, unfortunately, we haven't received any relief and supposedly it is the Third Wave already but the only thing the LGU provided us are Enhanced Community Quarantine Pass.
We were left with no choice but to occasionally go to the nearest grocery to buy supplies but the problem is: it's either they are running out of supplies or they are on the edge of closing due to the same reason.
As homemakers, what are the vital things we need to purchase to survive this EHQ?
So here's what I found out as a solution:
Crowd Store Finder is a website that is similar to Waze or Google Maps but specifically works to find stores, banks, pharmacies, and remittance centers that remain operational. As we all know, one of the primary purposes, why the government established an Enhance Community Quarantine, is to prevent people from staying outdoors that increases the risk of being infected with COVID-19.
Crowd Store Find relies on the information shared by volunteers from Good Vibes Digital PH- a group organized by Trinmar Boado, winder of the Clash Codes competition at Multisys Technologies in 2019. Boado works at the Department of Science and Technology's Metal Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC), mentioned that there are more than 100 volunteers who coordinate safely from their homes.

- Food (Rice, Canned Goods, Noodles and Produce)
- Water
- Medicines (Vitamins for our kids and adults)
- Prepaid Load (for communication to our loved ones who are miles away)
What are the occasional trappings we do?
- Getting Money and Sending money from Remittance Centers
- Cash Withdrawal
One of the major problems we face is either closed banks, empty or not working ATMs and limited supplies of the nearest supermarket/groceries and pharmacies.
My mom, she was diabetic and hypertensive, she needs daily maintenance and we occasionally buy medicines in a drugstore just in front of our subdivision but since the production and delivery of goods were affected, the medicines for her maintenance are limited already and worse, some of her meds are out of stock. This situation is similar to the nearest supermarket in our neighborhood. This became our dilemma; I was feeling that "Yes, we have money to buy supplies but where can we get enough supplies?"

"This technology reminds us that sharing of [information] does not just save the time of other people but also their lives," Boado mentioned. This is a great way for us to save time, effort in visiting familiar stores that happen to be closed due to the EHQ, it's also a great way for us to consolidate our trips outside meaning we do all our errands all in one trip- an ideal way to limit ourselves to being in contact of the outside world and avoiding ourselves from being infected with COVID-19.
